Dr. Alexis D. Furze is an experienced and skilled plastic surgeon with dual board certifications in several areas. To be more specific, Dr. Furze is an expert in performing nasal surgeries (rhinoplasty, septoplasty, balloon sinuplasty), facial procedures (facelift, necklift, blepharoplasty, injectable fillers), and reconstructive surgeries (several different types of facial fracture repairs, scar revision, tumor resection). Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your qualifications.
Dr. Alexis Furze: I am board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology as well as the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. With more than ten years of hands-on experience in multiple disciplines, I have performed thousands of successful surgeries and procedures. My surgical experiences have taken me across U.S. and overseas to Guatemala.
As far as my studies are concerned, I have studied at a number of different universities across America with primary ones being the University of Miami School of Medicine and University of Texas Southwestern. Moreover, I have more than a dozen medical writing pieces published in textbooks and medical journals.
Q: Can you expand a bit more on your experience in Guatemala?
Dr. Alexis Furze: Definitely. I went to Guatemala as part of CRISP (Children’s Rehabilitation Institute and Surgery Program) focusing on all ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) related issues. But, in particular, my role was to diagnose and treat children suffering from a cleft lip or cleft palate.
Q: So, ENT cases are what you deal with mostly?
Dr. Alexis Furze: That would indeed be correct. So far I have conducted over ten thousand nasal related surgeries. But, besides that, I also perform a fair amount of facial cosmetic procedures and reconstructive surgeries.
Q: Can you please tell us more about the nasal surgeries you perform?
Dr. Alexis Furze: Sure. There are actually a few different nasal procedures among them being:
- Balloon Sinuplasty
- Rhinoplasty
- Septoplasty
Balloon Sinuplasty deals with the sinuses. As you might know, millions of individuals suffer from sinus related issues every year. With balloon sinuplasty, it has become much easier to treat sinus problems. The procedure does not require any anesthetics or complex incisions, rather it uses a miniature balloon that is inserted into the blocked sinuses using an endoscope and slowly inflated to open the passage.
Rhinoplasty, on the other hand, deals with the actual reshaping of the nose which may be done for cosmetic or medical reasons. Rhinoplasty can make the nose appear more aesthetically appealing and can also alter the internal structure of the nose for better air flow.
Lastly, the septoplasty procedure relates to rectifying a septum which has deviated from its course. The septum is the bone and cartilage that separates the right and left nostrils. When this septum deviates from its course and blocks the passageway of one of the nostrils, then a septoplasty is required to return the septum to its correct place allowing for proper breathing.
Q: What about facial surgery, what do you offer?
Dr. Alexis Furze: I do both surgical and non-surgical treatments for the face. Non-surgical treatments include facial fillers such as Botox, Juvederm, Radiesse and Restylane. These facial fillers are used for quick, but temporary results. If you are looking for something a bit more permanent, then you will have to go for a surgical procedure such as a facelift or necklift.
Q: Apart from facelift and necklift, what other kinds of facial cosmetic procedures do you perform?
Dr. Alexis Furze: Well, apart from those, I perform a few others, including:
- Blepharoplasty
- Facial Reconstruction Surgery
- Neck Liposuction
Blepharoplasty, which is eyelid surgery, is used to treat droopy eyelids or eyelids with excess skin/fat on them. Facial reconstruction surgery is used for many things including soft tissue issues like fat and facial skin grafting or resetting of facial fractures such as fractured jaws, eye sockets, noses, and cheeks. Finally, the neck liposuction is something I specialize in. It is used to remove excess fat from the neck and jaw area which is particularly helpful in the removal of double chins.
