Q: What are your qualifications as a plastic surgeon?
Dr. Litner: After graduating from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine at the very top of my class, I completed my residency in New York and underwent a highly-competitive fellowship with the prestigious and acclaimed Dr. Peter Adamson. I am fully board certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, an important feature that patients are, unfortunately, starting to neglect. Aside from my formal education and qualifications, I have written and published a series of research publications on the topic of plastic surgery and have lectured around the world.
Q: Septal perforations seem to be one of the most difficult nasal conditions to treat. What causes septal perforation?
Dr. Litner: Actually, there is no unique cause for a septal perforation. Most typically, a septal perforation is caused by a traumatic injury that forms a hole in the septum. Other common causes include extended drug usage (especially cocaine usage), nose piercings, previous nose surgery, and over-usage of nasal decongestant sprays. In any case, it is important that you have it checked out and treated as early as possible in order to avoid further complications.
Q: How will I know if I have a septal perforation?
Dr. Litner: Patients with a septal perforation most often report hearing a faint, whistling sound while breathing. Frequent nose bleeds, unusual discharge from the nose, or abnormal discomfort or pain localized in the nose are also prevalent signs of a septal perforation. Depending on the size of the hole in the nose and the severity of your particular condition, you may exhibit a few or all of these symptoms. We highly recommend that if you are experiencing any of these symptoms at a higher rate than usual that you contact a doctor immediately for a professional medical evaluation.
Q: What are the dangers of cocaine usage after a septoplasty?
Dr. Litner: As previously mentioned, cocaine is a leading factor in the cause of a septal perforation. Because cocaine is snorted, it greatly restricts the blood vessels that line the nose. If a user continues to snort cocaine even after being treated, the potential harm is vast. Even after a septal perforation has been properly corrected, it is still highly advised that the patient refrain from using cocaine as the hole may reappear and can actually worsen.
Q: I have considerable acne scaring. Is there any hope for eliminating all signs of these blemishes?
Dr Litner: Yes. Acne scaring is a prevalent issue that we are proud that we can take care of at PROFILES Beverly Hills. We understand that such scarring can detract from a personís natural beauty and self-esteem, and can remain even years after a patient has gone through puberty. We will individualize a plan together in accordance with the severity of the issue and the specific treatment to be performed, and will generate a working solution to rid your face of all signs of acne once and for all. Some of the services we offer include Facial Peels and Facial Fillers like Juvederm or Restylane. We are positive that we can give your face a revived, fresh look and clear your skin to reveal a new youthful, glowing layer.
Q: What is an ethnic rhinoplasty and how does it differ from a traditional nose job?
Dr. Litner: At PROFILES Beverly Hills, we understand that no two faces are the same. Depending on your age, facial features, and racial makeup, the alternations to your nose can differ widely. An ethnic rhinoplasty takes into full account that an African American nose differs from an Asian nose that differs from a Caucasian nose. Each nose we construct is designed to be in-line with your specific facial features and ethnic identity, in order to promote a natural transition to your new nose.
Q: What do I do if I am unhappy with the results of a previous nose job?
Dr. Litner: A second rhinoplasty, or revision rhinoplasty, is fairly common when the initial results are unsatisfactory or not as expected. We perform both traditional and revision rhinoplasty at PROFILES Beverly Hills, whether or not the first nose job was conducted in our office. In the event that you are unhappy with the results of a nose job that we performed, we will take it upon ourselves to ensure your full satisfaction. We offer one of the lowest revision rates across the country so that you will never have a bad experience at PROFILES Beverly Hills.
Q: How can I see previous examples of your work?
Dr. Litner: I am pleased to say that the vast majority of our patients are more than satisfied with our work and either end up coming back themselves for a separate treatment or refer their friends and family to us. We have an extensive gallery of before and after pictures of nearly all procedures we perform at our office. In all of the patients we have treated at PROFILES Beverly Hills and displayed in our gallery, you can see obvious results and improvements without the clear indications of surgery or professional work. Q: What is your relationship with Dr. Solieman?
Dr. Litner: Dr. Solieman is my partner in crime, my teammate. We are proud that we work as a team at PROFILES Beverly Hills in nearly all procedures we perform. We can run our opinions by each other, ask for further advice, and catch and correct each otherís mistakes. We have been working together for enough time that we know exactly each otherís strengths and weaknesses, and can compromise accordingly. Having two fully-certified, experienced surgeons on board provides unparalleled benefits for our patients from the consultation to the recovery. Not to mention, we like to refer to ourselves as the ďDynamic Duo.Ē
Q: How do you stay current with cosmetic surgery?
Dr. Litner: Dr. Soliman and I lecture around the country and on an international level. We attend various lectures every year to enhance our current knowledge on plastic and cosmetic surgery, and to stay current with the latest advances and technologies. Speaking of technology, our office is constantly re-stocked with all the latest advancements in plastic surgery so that our patients are treated with only the top-of-the-line machinery.
